Kate Stone is the editor of the book Think Globally, Garden Locally and the founder of Science Connected a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to connecting members of the public with scientific research. This collective of scientists and science communicators from around the world are working to increase public understanding of science, creating free and equal access to science information, education, and equipping the greater public to be informed voters and good stewards of our planet.
For the Wild Gardening Festival, Stone will be our expert on urban gardening, where people with limited space must be exceptionally resourceful in carving out room to enhance the built environment. She hails from San Francisco—the second most densely populated large American city, behind New York City—so, she knows a thing or two (hundred) about what city dwellers must do to make room for herb gardens, neighborhood parks, native plants and healthy wildlife habitats.
“Look upward!” urges Stone, who will guide us on a photographic tour of creative and collaborative urban gardens, rooftop parks, and pocket-sized butterfly habitats in San Francisco. We’ll also see inspirational examples of urban horticulture from around the world.
And remember, Science Connected publishes fun, engaging, research-based science education books, educational resources, and the free, open-access, Science Connected Magazine. Go here to watch a short video: https://www.scienceconnected.org/about-us/
