Wild Gardening Festival Information

Event registration is $345 per person, and includes:

  • Three (3) days of workshops and field trips with van transportation and boxed lunch;
  • Saturday’s Welcome Reception and Event Orientation, with light dinner fare;
  • Sunday’s ‘Border Buttermilk’ Dinner al Fresco, featuring everyone’s favorite margaritas; and
  • Monday’s Keynote Speaker’s Banquet and Silent Auction to benefit our educational programs and supply our nursery needs.

The Wild Gardening Festival is designed to be a practical and full-filled adventure in #GoodHabitatForming. We’ve assembled a remarkable group of presenters who are excited to share their knowledge and experience with gardeners, from newbie to naturalist-level.  A combination of classroom-style talks with traditional field education is intended to facilitate practical comprehension and application of the tips and tricks shared by our experts. We hope you will choose to join us for fantastic guides, flavorful food and outstanding learning opportunities in the Lower Rio Grande Valley, where eleven biologically-distinct ecosystems converge at the tip o’ Texas.

Here is some other important information:

After you register, you will NOT receive any further communication from us concerning the festival. Your registration packet and 'goodie bag' will be available for pick up on Saturday, April 18, 2020, at the host hotel during hours specified on the schedule. Print your registration email and refer back to this website, should you have questions or concerns about the event or schedule.

Trips are limited to approximately 20 people, with two guides, and each van will contain a basic first aid kit and a small ice chest with at least one water per person. If you require insulin, an epipen or other medication, please remember to bring it with you each day AND inform your guide, driver and fellow tour members.

The Welcome Reception is optional, but we do share important information with everyone at that time, such as trip cancellations and re-bookings, field conditions that may impact your participation, and more. For this reason we strongly encourage everyone to attend and we provide food to lure you there.

PLEASE bring your own reusable water bottle. You may refill it at the hotel and the center, as well as at facilities' water fountains, for example. We are committed to reducing single-use plastics, and hope you will do your part.

While Mission and the surrounding areas offer many fine places to stay, we encourage festival registrants (especially first-timers) to stay at the host hotel.

Please note: the 2020 SCHEDULE OF EVENTS IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE.

All scheduled tour sites are subject to change based upon pre-festival scouting. The sale of limited space shall occur on a 'first come, first served' basis.  If you have questions about particular trips, regarding rigorous terrain, obstacles or hazards, please email: dale@wildgardeningfestival.com, and allow up to 24 hours for a detailed response.

  • Cancellations and Refunds: We know you don't want you to miss the inaugural Wild Gardening Festival, but if you must cancel, call 956.583.5400, during regular business hours, Monday - Friday.
